Research Activities

Through steady research efforts, the TEPS Center develops new tests and collects evidence supporting the validity of test score uses. We also present research findings at international conferences and publish papers in academic journals to promote the status of TEPS globally.

All tests produced by the TEPS Center have been developed through many years of research by English language assessment experts. In particular, the recent research on TEPS revision aimed to reflect the results of research conducted in the field of language assessment after the 1990s, when the original TEPS was first administered, as well as changes in English use environments over time. We changed the test structure, added new item types and designs, and examined test results and test takers’ perceptions through pilot tests. Through these procedures we confirmed the final version of the revised TEPS. The TEPS Center will keep conducting all types of necessary research in order to ensure that all tests controlled by the center, including TEPS, accurately assess test takers’ English language abilities and that test scores are utilized with validity and usefulness.
